Cheryl Brost

Official Altrient® Superhero

Cheryl Brost is a real-life superhero – a 41-year-old, happily married mother of two from Eugene – who makes Wonder Woman look like a couch potato. That’s because Cheryl is also an elite athlete, competing in the CrossFit Games. That makes her one of the Fittest Women on Earth. And her achievements are even more impressive when you consider that most of the other women at the Games are almost half her age.

If you haven’t heard about CrossFit or the CrossFit Games, don’t worry. You will. CrossFit is a fitness phenomenon that is taking the country and world by storm. The CrossFit Games are perhaps the most grueling international fitness competitions on the planet. Thousands of CrossFit members compete in Open and Regional competitions for a few coveted spots in the CrossFit Games, and the chance to earn the title of World’s Fittest Man or World’s Fittest Woman.

With the power of Altrient behind her, Cheryl intends to win that title. She is the Official Altrient Spokesperson and Altrient is her Official CrossFit Sponsor. Cheryl represents Altrient in the CrossFit community, at various special events around the country and in the media. She uses Altrient® C and Altrient® ME™ every day to power her CrossFit training and competitions.

A Stellar Resume

Cheryl has always been athletic and competitive. In high school, she was active in track, soccer and basketball. At Pacific Lutheran University (PLU), she continued to excel in soccer and basketball, and earned the following athletic honors. Cheryl was:

  • Striker/Midfielder when the PLU soccer team won National Championships in 1989 and 1991.
  • 1st Team NAIA Women’s Soccer All-American (1992)
  • 1st Team Adidas Soccer All-American Scholar-Athlete (1992)
  • ISAA/Adidas “National Player of the Year” – NAIA division (1992)
  • 1st Team NAIA All-American Scholar-Athlete (1991-92).

As you may have noticed, Cheryl was much more than a star athlete. She also graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration, majoring in Finance with a minor in Economics.

A High-Performance Life

“I was introduced to CrossFit training by a friend three years ago,” Cheryl recounts. “She told me it’s a great new way to work out. Well, it took me about a month to check it out, but once I was there I was hooked from the words, 3-2-1 Go!”

“I quickly discovered that CrossFit is a unique and wonderful community of people. CrossFit provides an awesome opportunity to train and compete not only against myself, but also alongside my teammates, pushing each other daily to be the best we can be. That builds a real bond. It’s what I was missing from my other training regimens.”

Her first CrossFit competition in March 2010 was a real eye opener. Cheryl realized there was so much to learn and so many body movements that needed to be perfected if she were to compete on a national level.

“Many people think CrossFit training is all about competition,” Cheryl says. “The truth is that CrossFit is more about pursuing a healthy lifestyle and fitness. Anyone can do it because the sport allows you to modify the movement or exercise to better fit your age and sex. I work out beside men and women who are half my age and even 60 or 70 years old.”

Cheryl’s enthusiasm for CrossFit has crossed over to her family. Her 15-year-old son, Alex, and nine-year-old daughter, Malia, excel in CrossFit training. They are also learning important lessons about good health and nutrition. Even Cheryl’s husband, Troy, a former college football player, is now enjoying the CrossFit lifestyle.

Cheryl believes nutrition is critical to success in any fitness program, especially CrossFit.

“I pretty much follow a strict Paleo diet,” she says. “That means lots of lean meats, poultry, eggs and fish, as well as lots of veggies, nuts, berries and some fruits. There’s no grains, beans, potatoes or added sugars.”

“And over the past three years, I have also learned about the important role of certain nutrients in providing extra energy and helping my body recover from the damage caused by intense training and competition. I need a lot of help to strengthen and maintain my body in order to be competitive at an elite level on the world stage. That’s why I eat right and take Altrient® every day.”
