The 2nd Fittest Man on Earth
Matt Chan is one seriously fit dude – a 34-year-old, five-foot-eleven-inch, 208-pound block of moving marble. He’s a former firefighter and EMT from Denver who, in a few short years, has become a world-renowned fitness phenom.
Matt is all about sports and high performance – from swimming in high school to water polo and weight lifting at Western Illinois University, from telemark skiing and rock climbing to mountain biking “wherever two wheels can roll.”
Oh, and he’s also the reigning “2nd Fittest Man on Earth” – a title he earned with a superhuman performance at the 2012 CrossFit Games.
Matt is now the official male spokesperson for Team Altrient® and he uses Altrient® C and Altrient® ME™ every day as an integral part of his training and nutrition programs, as well as his competitions.
“CrossFit Changed My Life”
“I discovered CrossFit training in 2007,” Matt recalls. “Some of my fellow firefighters told me about it and had me watch a video of a group of women completing Angie.” In case you’re wondering, “Angie” is one of the fearsome CrossFit WODs (Workout of the Day) named after particularly destructive hurricanes.
“I couldn’t believe my eyes,” he continues. “But I was sure that CrossFit would help make me a better firefighter, climber, skier and mountain biker. And I knew I wanted in!”
Since then, Matt has won four CrossFit Regionals competitions and placed in the top ten at four of his five CrossFit Games. He also competes on Team USA in the international CrossFit Invitational series. Matt is widely considered to be the only man capable of wresting the title of “Fittest Man on Earth” from two-time CrossFit Games winner Rich Froning.
He admits, “In many way, CrossFit has changed my life.”
Indeed. Matt eventually retired from his firefighting/EMT duties and dedicated his career to CrossFit. Apart from his competitive campaigns, he is the Co-Owner and Head Trainer at CrossFit Verve in Denver and a top-level instructor for CrossFit, Inc. He holds numerous professional certifications in adult and children’s fitness training, nutrition, mobility, gymnastics, goal setting and powerlifting, and he is a USAW Olympic weightlifting Club Coach.
The Dynamic Duo
Matt joins elite athlete and perennial CrossFit Games contender, Cheryl Brost, in the Team Altrient lineup. Cheryl has made a huge and positive impact on women in the CrossFit community – so much so that many people believe that Altrient products are for women only.
Of course, Altrient is for everybody and we believe Matt’s iconic presence, rock-solid credibility and accomplishments will have a similar impact on CrossFit men. Together, we hope Cheryl and Matt will also be able to carry our message and our values of health, passion and responsibility to health-driven consumers throughout the country and beyond.
“When Altrient contacted me, I was immediately interested,” Matt says. “I knew Cheryl was involved with the company and I had seen their presence at the 2012 CrossFit Games. Their support for Cheryl was amazing.”
“Altrient sent me samples of their products,” he continues. “And after only two weeks, I noticed a significant difference in my immune system and muscle recovery. That’s what convinced me to join Team Altrient. And I am excited and honored to help contribute to their mission and their success.”
“My passion lies in the pursuit of high performance,” he concludes. “I love to help others by sharing my passion for fitness and the experience I’ve gathered in my own pursuits. If you dedicate yourself to fitness and self-improvement, you can go anywhere and do anything you choose.”
